Happy 3rd Birthday JP Ecological Services!

Our ecological consultants have completed more than 40 projects to help demonstrate that protected habitats and species have been comprehensively considered in development plans and have provided mitigation plans to protect and enhance our natural environment as part of the associated planning applications.

JP Ecological Services recently celebrated the third anniversary of our first consultancy task, and it’s true – time really does fly when you are having fun! Our first job was a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal of a reclaimed open-cast mine where planning was underway for up to 5,000 homes, along with supporting infrastructure. It was a large site encompassing a range of habitats each with their own potential challenges, but we were able to produce reports that helped the clients adapt their development plans and tackle the easier areas first, keeping the work on the project moving whilst more specialist investigations took place.

Since then, we have worked with a range of customers and projects from small development projects to repurpose grazing land, to those wanting to refurbish old buildings or install solar panels on waste ground to provide a source of cheap renewable energy. We have been happy to help clients with “one-off” projects, but are equally delighted to have fostered some long term working relationships with clients who value timely, comprehensive and easily understood advice.

We love helping clients with all types of surveying tasks, from a general Phase One Habitat Survey through to specialist ecological surveys, to assess population presence of reptiles, badgers and dormice in wooded areas; riverside surveys focussed on amphibians, otters, water voles and non-native, invasive species; grassland surveys looking for reptiles or at surrounding hedgerows and bats inhabiting old buildings. It doesn’t stop there even- we love trees as much as other wildlife and our arboricultural surveys have included tree condition and root protection zones. We have worked in areas with designated levels of protection and we pride ourselves on offering mitigations where possible that are simple but effective. We support clients throughout their projects, offering on-site guidance, monitoring of contractors to ensure work is compliant with protected species legislation.

We have been proud to support projects across the UK, from Wales to Newcastle; our team love to get out and about. Our lead ecologist has considerable experience in previous ecological and land management roles and is always happy to answer questions.
