Key Info
- Some Local Planning Authorities require a “Wildlife Protection Plan”, to be approved in writing before any development work commences, to ensure that plant and animal species are protected in accordance with local planning regulations.
- The plan is intended to make the precautions and processes required to protect plants and creatures clear to all participants in the project and to define the persons responsible for ensuring compliance with the plan.
- All construction activities to be implemented in accordance with approved details and timing of the plan unless otherwise approved in writing by the LPA.
Protection Plan
The wildlife protection plan will generally include:
- An appropriately scaled map/plan showing all Wildlife Protection Zones where construction activities are restricted and where protective measures will be installed or implemented.
- Details of protective measures (both physical measures and sensitive working practices) to avoid impacts during construction
- A timetable to show the phasing of construction activities to avoid periods of the year when sensitive wildlife might be harmed (such as bird nesting season).
- The persons who are responsible for:
- Compliance to legal consents relating to nature conservation
- Compliance with conditions relating to nature conservation
- Installation of physical measures during construction
- Implementation of sensitive working instructions during construction.
- Regular inspection and maintenance of physical measures and monitoring of sensitive working instructions during construction.
- Provision of training and information about the importance of “Wildlife Protection Zones” to all construction personnel on site.
